Can CBD users fail drug tests? Well, maybe. It all depends on the compounds other than CBD contained in the CBD product.

CBD is merely one among the hundreds of cannabinoids in cannabis plants. The plants have various other cannabinoids including CBG, CBN, THC, CBDA, THCA, and more.

What Do Drug Tests Screen For?

Drug tests screen for THC or THC-COOH, one of the metabolites of THC. The presence of CBD in our body will not lead to a drug test failure.

THC can generate high or psychotropic effects in users. Drug tests can detect even the traces of THC present in our system. To avoid the possibility of minute amounts of THC leading to a drug test failure, federal workplace drug testing cut-off values were established. This indicates that passing a drug test does not always mean there is no THC or THC-COOH present in our system. Instead, it simply states that the amount of THC or THC-COOH present in our system is below the federal workplace cut-off value.

CBD Spectrum Options And Their Influence On Drug Test Results

There are three spectrum options in CBD products and the spectrum option a cannabidiol product belongs to has a lot to do with the results of a drug test.

The spectrum options in CBD are:

Full-spectrum CBD

Full spectrum CBD products contain all beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids extracted from the source cannabis plants. They contain cannabinoids including CBD, CBDA, CBG, CBN, CBGA, THC, THCA, and more. However, the percentage content of THC in full spectrum cannabidiol products is kept below 0.3%, as per the legal guidelines. This implies that there is a chance for a positive drug test result on taking a full spectrum CBD product. It all depends on the cut-off value set by the organization that you work for.

Broad spectrum CBD

Broad spectrum CBD products are similar to full spectrum CBD, except that they do not have THC. The cannabidiol products belonging to this spectrum do not have THC even in trace amounts and there is no way their consumption can lead to a drug test failure.

Isolate CBD

It is the purest form of CBD because the only cannabis compound it contains is CBD. Taking isolate CBD products will not lead to a positive drug test.

The selection of the right spectrum option in CBD is especially important if your profession requires you to undergo regular drug tests.
